Since I usually can’t listen to the live show, from now on I’ll create a ‘post for the day’ the night before.

Currently, my construction is still being delayed. Adequate timber has been located in Idaho and Orgeon; clear-cutting is underway to finally provide the materials needed for an undertaking such as this. Artie’s mom’s deposit has cleared the bank, so I expect to be completed within the week.
Should a miracle occur, and Mr Lange pulls himself out of his death-spiral, I will be converted into a two-bedroom apartment.

Quite honestly….and really everyone….let’s all be honest with ourselves here. Despite the fact that Artie may or may not be using drugs again….he’s disconnected from the show in other capacities. It’s almost as if the show is a distraction as of late….that being the last year or so actually.
He’s to fucking busy trying to achieive another level of fame….that being through his half ass movie or whatever TV endeavor he has in the works or on the horizon. What Artie doesn’t understand is…if he burns the show that made him he’ll be done.
Call me an asshole…..but the dude has lit more than 1 match to start the burn….it may be a slow burn but he’s playing with fire. Artie is not intrugal to the show and shoul dbe confronted on his head not being 100% in the show….
When was the last time one of you guys took a fucking nap at your office…..ate all frigging day into a sugar trance or pulled a few no shows on the job without real ramifications….just curious…

Artie shows classic drug “vacation” symptoms…calls in early to get the voicemail, doesn’t contact anyone after hours, speaks in an exagerrated distressed voice and nobody is that fucking sick to miss a weeks worth of work. You would think he would need hospitlization. Why not call into the show?

anyone that sits on the stern show will be automatically become a star celebrity, for example, jd-richard-sal-gary the fidget- so on and so forth…….honestly i miss the hell out of jackie, i listened to the master tape theatre from the old jackie days and let me tell you, when jackie was on the show it was so much more funny listening to everyone rag on jackie and listening to that classic laugh that jackie has. anyway i wish artie the best with all of his issues but i just hope jackie is ready to pounce back on the show when artie fucks his career up .,,,snort one for me artie……………..

even if artie is not back on drugs, howard and co. need to stop coddling him. I don’t know ANYONE who misses three days of work from being ill without being hospitalized. but of course he has to be back on drugs. and addicts are the best liars and manipulators. I adore artie but I also recognize him for what he is. howard put it best himself a couple weeks ago when he was commenting on how artie surrounds himself with people who “take care of him”–so he doesn’t have to grow the fuck up and be a responsible, functioning adult.
like I said, howard and gary and everyone else needs to employ some tough love, fire his fat ass and make him start to realize how his self-destructive choices are going to ultimately destroy all that is good in his life.

His heart doesn’t seem to be in it the past year or so, and I think he thinks he is or can be bigger than the show.
I think Artie is funny and great for the show, a perfect fit, but realistically……..if Artie leaves the show, he is just another B level actor & an average comedian.
I hope he gets it together, gets off the drugs, and makes the right move, to stay with the show.

It is true most normal people in there mid 30s who are sick do not take off 3 days of work in a row. Lets face it though Artie is not normal and really doesnt care about the consequences. I compare Artie to the way I was in college - go drinking every night and not show up for classes for a few days - and i didnt give a shit. Is Artie on drugs - i hope not! I think he is the best thing to happen to the show since the day they found BeetleJuice. I was never a fan of Jackie to be honest. Anyway Artie if you read this GET BACK TO WORK YOU LAZY BASTARD.

Artie does care about what “people think” and I am afraid that he is so depressed now he doesn’t even care about that anymore. Howard and Robin are pushing him away. I have a step son who is spending 15-years in prison which happened due to being adidicted to Heroin. He had robbed people and stores for money for it. Artie doesnt need to do that but the drug is the same. I didnt know he was on smack and I still would deny it. PLEASE NO MATTER WHAT THE REASON IS he is not “just sick with the flu”. Ok – I for one believe that Artie is back on the stuff – but he feels so embarrassed that he may actually let himself die rather than get the help he needs. Artie needs to know that plenty of people need help getting back on the wagon after a relapse – and he is one of them!
Having said that, I believe that Howard and company have a responsibility to see that Artie gets the help he needs. This “I want to believe Artie is just sick,” attitude that Howard claims is delusional, and it enables Artie to continue his destructive behavior.
If Artie’s “friends” won’t help him, and Artie has decided he will not help himself, he will die. I hate to say this, but there are only two possible conclusions: If Artie’s drug use continues to accelerate, he will be dead, or in rehab within a month. I sure hope it’s rehab!
Get better Artie, we’re pulling for you!

VWSteve you are right on target. Artie has been limping along for a while in the show, not fully into it, thinking something bigger and better is just around the corner. It is all about money to him. Think about how he has calculated how much every other comic or celebrity is making or already has. Think about how he freaks that it took 10 days to get paid by Dice. Its all about the cash, which is so sad. He should be enjoying the hell out of the life he has right now, and he’s miserable.
Benjamen is a bit naive. Howard is not going to get on the show and say he is sure Artie is on drugs, because that could hurt Artie’s carrer. Howard would NEVER do something to hurt the carrer of someone who has worked with him.
I think the show is definitely laying down groundwork to replace Artie. Think about the two bits for today; Arties food in a bucket and putting staff in order of weight. Both those bits could easily have been put on hold, but instead they talked them up yesterday. I see that as throwing down the gauntlet to Artie, saying they need him and if he is dedicated he would show up. Look at Sal, so sick he shit his pants on the way to work, but he was trying to get to work anyway, and he was in the next day.
Time to move on, get someone in that chair that will appreciate being there.

I think Howard n’ the gang are trying to cover for Artie so he won’t blow his FOX deal. Having Artie on a FOX show means free publicity for Howard’s show, hence the need to keep it looking like Artie is just sick with the flu.
In the real world, if you fail to show up for work for more than a couple of days, you need a doctor’s note to return to work. Yes, Artie can buy a note from a friendly doctor, but he should still bring one in.
Gary, you’ve got to get a doctor in on Thursday to test Artie. If he refuses, then you have to remember that he works for SIRIUS and they should have a policy about missing days and drug use.

Okay, here is the deal. Artie has now been “Sick” for 7 days: Thur, Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon, Tue & Wed. He has already missed more days this month alone than Fred has missed in 20 years combined! I don’t know about you but I hate going to the Doctor, but come on, you’re on a high-profile show and you don’t get your ass to the doctor after the first couple of days?? I listened to all his bullshit call ins saying he won’t be in and he hasn’t once said he went to the doctor. What is he waiting for? Someone on the show has to look on the floor around his chair for a hair that has fallen out, and have it tested for drugs, Lord know he’s loosing them at an accelerated rate now….NO QUESTION ABOUT IT, ARTIE HAS HAD A RELAPSE!!

i am really comcerned ’bout artie. i have a job that requires me to listen to the show and the bubba show and than listen to the howard replay.
in the recent weeks arties speech has been slower than normal and somewhat slurred. he has been nodding off on the show, even when presented with food in the green room he had nodded off. I know he is working a strenuous schedule at present and may contribute to the fatigue, but all of the aforementioned symptoms are indicative of heroin use.
if you recall he stated before that his mother could tell that he was on dope due to the fact that he was nodding off on the show. Artie, I love you. like Howard and others I hope that it is just a stomach thing, but if not get better man. the rest of the fans and I love you and don’t want to see you end up like other famous comedians, that you idol!!!!!!! GET BETTER ASAP!, wharever it takes.

This reeks of relapse. As someone who periodically dabbles in drugs I can say that he has most likely relapsed. Case in point. A friend gave me a lot of vicodin a couple weeks ago. I’m talkng the Extra Strength ones here. And I’ve been popping them like tic-tacs on a daily basis. I tried not to take any this Monday. What ended up happening? I thought I was getting sick. I felt nauseous, achey, and my head hurt. I couldn’t focus. So I popped a couple Vikes and everything was cool again. If it’s not heroin it’s probably some other narcotic/painkiller that he’s got into. I feel for the guy. Plus he’s overweight and the toxins are gestating in his body and partying like crazy. Some of you people are brutal work slaves- I had the flu recently and new it was better to stay home than expose my co-workers to a very severe case of the flu! I probably got it because someones pride would have been hurt if they had missed work because of being sick. That said, I think Artie may be in trouble and could use some professional help-I hope he gets the help he needs before its’ too late.

I believe a wise fan said it best here yesterday: F Howard for letting Arite’s spiraling decline take a toll on the quality of the show. Artie’s amazing when he’s on his game, alert, quick-witted, etc. Right now he’s fat, irresponsible, and is far from being the best he can be. In turn, Howard’s show is far from being the best it can be. I’m guessing Artie has a lot of hounding guilt about his father being paralyzed, and then dying, and that’s the root of his problems. Benjamin made a great observation above: Howard’s “Artie will get better” attitude is just the opposite of what Howard should be doing. Howard should be firm with Artie, hold him accountable for his declining health and declining value to the show…not sitting back and brushing it off as trivial. If Artie stays on this same track, he’ll be dead way too soon. Howard’s had his chance to make a difference. Unless he’s doing something behind the scenes that we don’t hear about, Howard’s failing on this one. I’ll be curious to hear how Howard handles his broadcasts and rationalizes his guilt once Artie passes on…

I just watched the depressed Beetlejuice episode with Artie in mind, and he looks pretty out of it before he puts the glasses on.
Also I noticed that right before the interview with Beetle starts that HOWARD CLEARLY KNOWS WHAT IS GOING ON WITH ARTIE …Seriously, go back and watch it…
HOWARD changes his voice to some weird inflection and shoots Artie a look that seems to be part sarcasm and part disappointment and SAYS: “TV channel is telling me to put on my sunglasses…hopefully i’ll look handsomer” Immediately after this Artie puts his glasses on.
Later in the interview with Beet, HOWARD SAYS TO BEETLE: “Artie’s on heroin, he has his problems too”
BEETLE SAYS: “That’s his problem”

its possible to be sick for 3 days in a row. i know it’s highly unlikely for a 39 year old man man but lets face it art’s not in the best of health, so sick for 3 days can happen. i’ll give artie the benfit of the doubt…. i haven’t had the pleasure of listening to the show for 100 years like everyone else you hear call in but i just can’t think that this jackie the jokeman can be as funny as artie. artie needs to get his fucking ass on the ball. it seems the sun doesn’t shine in the south when artie is absent.

I have never used drugs, but I did work for several years managing phone rooms with an assortment of ex and current users. Heard every lie and every excuse in the book. And I would say 90% of the people who missed two days or more in a row turned out to be using. My best salesperson who made the company tons of money was an off and on 300 pound crackhead. His behavior reminds me a lot of Artie. He would be fine for a month or so then miss most of a week. Always lied about being sick, using his weight and poor diet as the excuse, not the drugs which was the real reason. A couple of times while he was clean he would admit to lying about the drug use only to go back to it.
My take on Artie, if he was working for me with this behavior and history. I would say 100% using. Give him a drug test, if he is clean he should want to clear his name. I love him on the show but if he is using, he has to quit and go into rehab.
And to those who compare Artie to Farley or Belushi. They were international superstars, with hit movies and stints on SNL. Artie at least yet does not have that kind of following. He has his time on Mad TV and Beer League. Most people outside of the show have no idea who he is. Lets hope he survives long enough to be in Farley and Belushi’s class.

All Howard has to do is tell Artie, “that’s OK, Jackie can fill in until you are feeling better.” If that doesn’t shake up the fat load, nothing will.
Artie has consistently admitted that he has a charmed life that he is bound to destroy. That attitude lets him act any way he wants. Mostly with no respect to himself or others in his life who may care. The best solution is for the ones close to him to stop putting up with his shit and either jettison the worthless fuck or perform an intervention.
At this point, it doesn’t really matter if he is on drugs or not, he is betraying everyone’s trust and good faith.

It seems like its popular to jump on Howard and the rest of the show for not doing anything about Artie. But lets not forget KC Armstrog and all that happened with him. All the help they tried to get him and the people steppin in to tell him to chill. We never knew anything about that until the months leading to Howard leaving KROC. Believe me if there is a hint that Artie is in trouble there are people around pitching in. For all we know Artie could be in a detox now and the show is covering. Be calm and lets wait for details.

I have to agree with most of you. Regardless of whether or not he is on SMACK he should fucking grow up and make it to work! I’d be curious to find out what he is pulling down at Sirius but I’m sure its cresting 500K a year for four days a week!
On another note, is anyone sick of hearing Howard say he is jealous about some other celebrity shlubs job and how great of a gig it must be! Take a look at your paycheck next time you feel down Howie, I’m sure it will cheer you up. Meanwhile

Artie’s great on the Howard Stern show. The show is much better with him than without him…but only when he’s sharp and not weezing into the mic. Sure would be a big loss for the show if Artie were to move on….either leaving to seek new fame, or dropping dead! I think the popularity that he’s gained from being on the show has given him false hope…he thinks he’s got Belushi/Farley potential. I don’t see it. His best work is what he does for the Stern show. He’s a fair actor at best, and a fair stand up comedian at best too. He’s a home run on the Stern show. I’d like to see him give up the stand up routine. I think that exposes him to the drinking, drugs, late nights, etc. that has brought him to his current pathetic state. An occasional movie or TV role works too…but doing the stand up circuit is litrally (listen to the show today?) killing him. Artie, you’re a star on radio…be happy with that, and find your growth within that role. Drop the stand up. You’ve done Carnegie Hall, but only because you’re on the Stern show. Save your Carnegie Hall appearance as a memory and an accomplishment on the resume…don’t think there’s long line of those appearances without being on the show. Oh, and there won’t be any more appearances when you’re dead either…so get your ass and head in shape…

I think they need to rejuvenate the show by starting it at 10AM
They could all have fuller lives, which would make them more interesting to us.
Howard could go to the Premieres with Beth, instead of having to go to bed at 9.
I don’t think the change would inconvenience any listener too terribly,
now that there are continuous replays.
Artie has to make a lot of changes in his life anyway.
Howard should encourage health for all his people
by hiring an ‘Oprah’ style chef, who can cater every day.
He can make them all delicious food that is also healthy.
Of course, that might require Howard to lay out some cash, so forget about it.

Artie, it is me again “YankeeDoodleArtie” I had to come up with another name at home. How gay of names I have picked. Yankee I know you love and Doodle was the next thing I could think of and now “lets keep it real” I sound like a “talk show host” however I mean it. I sure hope Howard is helping you by “covering for you”. I know he loves you and I hope your best interests are at heart. I sure hope he is covering you even if it may not be the right thing to do vs. being a Re-tard like he maybe about “drug addition” remember you are going to learn chess to play with Howard. What a sweet kind gesture to a friend to be interested in what they love to “connect with them”. I hope Howard is at home right now reading about drug addition and the best way to help his friend and to help EVERYONES FRIEND Artie. Please dont think I am some sort of “perfect person”. I don’t do drugs but I have my own escapes. I am a dreamer and totally understand depression and sadness. People telling you people love you may even make you feel worse. I’m just hoping that Artie has NOT relapsed. The love that Stern fans have for him is incredible!

Benjammin? You there? How did you know that Artie would rather die than be embaressed about his additions/faults? I would love to know for I feel the same. As I would do the same. I am not addicted to drugs but I dont want to let my loved ones down.

Whether Artie is physically using or not, he is still in active addiction. He is an addict that hasn’t taken care of his main problem, the reason he turned to drinking and drugging to excess. Artie will be a mess until he fixes the inner problems, whether through therapy, rehab or AA/NA.
Get over it Artie, life goes on and you can still have a great life, even better than this shit you have now. Clean and sober with new experiences to make us laugh. If Howard gives you shit about it, tell him to F off because it’s either that or you will die.

Every time they mention that Artie’s not working today lets remember that he probably cant force himself out of bed at 4 am to get to work if he feels like shit.

What a bunch of friggin haters, and you know who you are. If he’s on drugs or not it’s not your business. To call up and cry and write letters about the quality of my radio show. Oh chrst get lives people. “Nobody takes 3 days off of work” says who? “Nobody pays off a bookie at 10:30 in the morning” I have. “Bookies love artie cause he’s such a loser at betting” On the year if you factor in that he won 15,000 on the final four and 12,500 in a poker game, i dont see him as such a big loser when you look at the big picture. Sure he may be on drugs and then again he may not. When you put on a hundred pounds in less than a year and dont eat anything with any nutritional value that reeks havoc on your body.
I just dont know how people could hate so much.
