Well, I listened to most of the show today and it seems that Artie was out! Two days ago, Artie was wearing sunglasses and falling asleep again at work, yesterday he mysteriously was 10 minutes late to the show after his break, AND TODAY’S HE’S MIA! I missed the beginning of the show; what was the reason?!?!
Artie does’t show signs of using drugs very often so I only assumed I would write about one post each week, but so far this is 3 days in a row. I’m really starting to get suspicious now.
Highplains seems to think this might be Anti-depressant related so I’ll take that into consideration for categorizing today’s post. Any other Thoughts?

Wasnt he sleeping the other day and then he was MIA for a bit on yesterdays show? Im guessing hes weening himself off a new antidepressant thats getting him all groggy.

I think most people who know whats up about drugs and know what’s up with this show are pretty much resigned to the fact that artie is either back on dope or he’s prescribed benzo’s (valiums, kolonopins, xanex) or is abusing his subutex. It’s a goddamn shame because not only is artie a truly brilliant comic who did much to bring stern a second golden era - he also seems like a truly good guy - the type whose death would be devastating to family, friends and fans. I don’t think Artie is going to die anytime soon - drug addicts with money seem to live significantly longer then their economically strapped antitheticals. Artie’s superdefensive whenever his drug use is brought up (i.e. I’m listening to Artie trying to cover his slurring during the Saget interview and getting hyper defensive when drugs are brought up). I have watched a few of my closest friends have their lives reduced to shit due to their dope habits - I hope Artie can catch himself before he wastes a shitload of talent and I hope stern fans and stern can help him and hope for his life getting healthier and easier rather than taking some sort of sadistic joy in watching his self destructive slide.

Subutex is a miracle drug and will successfully get most off a narcotics habit. It may have to be taken for life but its well worth it. About $300;/month plus a monthly doctors visit.
One good thing about Subutex is that you cannot load up on it, it fills the receptors up so you cannot get high off of it by taking more then prescribed. And if you also take another narcotic it will not work.
Artie said he was on Subutex and it would be sad if he stopped taking it because if he has he probably will go back to the drugs.

Artie fell off the wagon at Bubba’s wedding. He left the wedding and went to the bar, not to catch the score, but to “powder his nose”. He sounded very shadey that show.

thebronxmann, you are close but Subutex actually can be abused because it contains only buprenorphine which you can abuse. It is the Suboxone version that you are refering to. An addict is typically given Subutex when they are in withdrawal to stabalize them and relieve them from the symptoms… then they are given Suboxone for maintenance and to take them off. Suboxone has Naltraxone in it which is an opiate agonist… It must be taken under the tongue because Buprenorphine can be absorbed that way but Naltrexone can not. If you swallow the pill you will be put in immediate withdrawal.. that is the stop gap measure and what makes it so effective for detoxing opiate addicts. I am an addict and that is how I was able to get off opiates.
By artie’s behavior, any addict will be able to identify that he is back on the wagon. I agree with Artiecontin.. he is either abusing benzos or opiates… his falling asleep is the proof. The dude is on his way to an early grave if he doesn’t clean up his act. The problem is that he is well off and unfortunatly, for people like him.. there really is no “bottom” because someone is always there to take care of him financially or physically. That is why Farley and Belushi killed themselves.. if they were regular guys they would have hit bottom because they would have been broke and unable to feed their addiction. UNless Artie changes his ways, i fear the worst.

First of all let me say I love Artie. I hardly would listen to the show before he came on. I just didn’t like Jackie, the show was to “White”, and Artie brings an Italian flavor a room full of crackers, anyways that being said, if in fact Artie is on drugs again. I would like to say, I hope his fat nasty ungrateful ass rots in hell, his behavior has been different lately. Calling Howard a dick for giving advice, lashing out at both Robin and Howard on the wrap up show, I think Howard knows that WHEN his relationship ends with Artie its not going to be nice. No matter how much Howard love Artie, Artie will find a way to ruin it like everything else in his life. Artie if I could send you one message I would say, thank you for turning me on to Stern, and if and when you leave the Howard Stern show. Artie who? Your fat ass loser name will never be spoken of again unless being made fun of.
